Noteless Web Extension

Written by Sofie Skuland

The Noteless Web Extension lets you use Noteless directly in your browser — for example during a video consultation or while working in a web-based electronic health record (EHR) system. The extension transcribes the conversation and generates a completed clinical note that you can copy or automatically insert into your EHR system.

What you'll need

  • Google Chrome or another Chromium-based browser

  • A Noteless account

  • Microphone access in your browser

  • The Noteless Web Extension installed

1. Install the Noteless Web Extension

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Search for Noteless.

  3. Open the extension called Noteless.

  4. Click Add to Chrome.

  5. Confirm that you want to add the extension.

Once installed, you will find the Noteless icon in the top-right corner of your browser.

2. Pin Noteless to Your Browser

For easier access, you can pin the icon to your toolbar:

  1. Click the puzzle piece icon in the top-right corner of Chrome.

  2. Find Noteless in the list.

  3. Click the pin icon next to Noteless.

The Noteless icon will now always be visible in your toolbar.

3. Open the Noteless Extension

The first time you open the Noteless extension, you must refresh any pages that were already open before installation. This allows the page to load the newly installed extension.

Then click the Noteless icon in the top-right corner of your browser. A small Noteless window will open on the right side of your screen, where you can choose between:

  • Consultation – for patient conversations where you want to generate a clinical note

  • Dictation – for free-text dictation

💡Tip: You can also run Noteless as a side panel instead of a floating popup. The side panel stays docked as you switch tabs, but takes up a fixed strip of browser width. The floating popup can be moved anywhere but may need to be reopened if you switch tabs.

To switch between the two, click the menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner of the Noteless window and select Open side panel.

4. Start a Consultation

  1. Click Consultation.

  2. Select whether it's an in-person or video consultation.

  3. Select the correct microphone if you have multiple microphones available.

  4. Select the appropriate language.

  5. Allow the browser to access your microphone if prompted.

  6. Start the conversation as usual.

Noteless will begin listening and transcribing the conversation. You can use it during both video consultations and in-person consultations, as long as the microphone can capture the conversation.

5. Pause or End the Recording

  1. You can pause the recording at any time during the consultation by clicking the pause button.

  2. When the consultation is finished, click Generate Note. Noteless will create a structured clinical note based on the conversation.

6. Use the Note in Your EHR System

Once the note is ready, you can:

  • Review and edit the note before saving it

  • Use Auto Fill, or copy and paste the note into your EHR system

When Auto Fill is supported, Noteless will automatically enter the text into the appropriate field.

💡 Using Noteless during video consultations

Noteless works especially well for video consultations, since the extension runs directly in your browser — completely independent of which video tool you use (Teams, Zoom, or other web-based platforms).

When starting a video consultation, make sure to select Video before starting the consultation. This makes Noteless capture audio directly from the active video tab, so both your voice and the patient's voice are picked up.

Troubleshooting

If Noteless cannot hear audio:

  • Make sure the correct microphone is selected.

  • Verify that Chrome has permission to access the microphone.

  • Close other applications that may be using the microphone, such as Teams or Zoom.

  • Try refreshing the page.

  • Test the microphone in another browser or on another website.

If the Noteless icon does not appear:

  • Click the puzzle piece icon in Chrome.

  • Find Noteless in the list.

  • Pin the extension using the pin icon.

If the note does not auto-fill:

  • Copy the note manually.

  • Paste it into the correct field in your EHR system.

  • Contact support if Auto Fill previously worked but suddenly stopped working.

Quick Summary

  1. Install Noteless from the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Pin the Noteless icon to your browser.

  3. Open the extension and select Consultation.

  4. Choose your microphone and language.

  5. Let Noteless listen during the consultation.

  6. Click Generate Note.

  7. Copy or Auto Fill the note into your EHR system.
