Tips for using Verbal Triggers effectively during a consultation

There are several ways to ensure that your verbal triggers are activated during a consultation. If you have created a trigger that naturally fits into the conversation, you simply need to make sure that the words are spoken exactly as they are defined in the phrase.

For example, if you have a phrase for a cardiac examination with the trigger โ€œthe heart sounds normal,โ€ you must ensure that you say these exact words to the patient when appropriate.

For verbal triggers that do not naturally fit into the patient conversation, you can activate the phrase by saying the trigger after the patient has left the room but before generating the note. This allows you to verify that the trigger is transcribed correctly. This approach can be useful whether or not you believe the trigger was mentioned during the consultation, as it helps ensure that the desired phrases are included in the note.
